Proyecto Batiscafo started as an artist run programme of residencies in Havana. During this time the programme has grown and has become a regular feature in the emerging Cuban art scene through its numerous projects that include open studios, talks, performances, exhibitions and many other public activities.
The main aim of the programme continues to be that of providing an independent space, both physical and conceptual, where artists come together to exchange ideas and make work that reflects, but also challenges, our perception of the environment and its social order.
In the last few years Batiscafo has been working closer with other partners of the Triangle Network of artists and organisations in Latin America. These connections have made a significant contribution to developing a greater understanding of emerging practices in the region by instigating a dialogue, which in some cases is still continuing, aimed at discussing contexts, strategies, methodologies and references in art making and in communicating with local audiences.
