About

The Wasla workshop took place between 21st March and 4th April 2003 at Nuweiba in Sinai on the Gulf of Aquaba. The setting at Castle Beach by the sea, looked across the Gulf into Jordan and Saudi Arabia, with the jagged mountains of the Sinai desert behind.

Wasla was one of the very few international cultural events in the region not to be cancelled on account of the war in Iraq which was taking place while the artists were working at Nuweiba. Much of the work was made in response to the tensions and implications of the war.
