Over the last 26 years, Gasworks has been committed to supporting artists from across the world through our artistic programmes. Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of everything that we do. We stand in solidarity with anti-discrimination campaigners and will continue to do our part in providing an equitable platform for open dialogue to those who suffer from discrimination due to their race, ability, gender, sexuality, class or religious beliefs.

We acknowledge that this is an ongoing process, with no room for complacency. We will continue to revise our policies and strategies, and increase our race and other anti-discrimination awareness as individuals.

We regularly discuss these issues amongst our colleagues and artists, as well as with peer organisations within the Triangle Network, Common Practice and others. We will continue to reserve a portion of our budget for independent professional advice and training for staff and board and will aim to share good practice with partners and colleagues.

In the last year, the organisation has delivered the following:

  • Unconscious bias training to all staff and Board Members
  • Code of Conduct , developed in consultation with staff and Board. The document outlines the principles of the organisation and reporting procedures
  • Review of recruitment practices, for staff and third party engagement (including artists residencies, exhibitions and contracted roles), to make processes more equitable and accessible
  • Revision of the language and terminology used internally and externally, with guidelines that reflects our anti-racist and intersectional stance.

Below is a brief evidence-based overview of our programme, activities, and staff team which aims to demonstrate the work that we have produced. Gasworks believes in being proactive to fulfil the commitments we made to our colleagues, artists and visitors.

Although we actively support anti-discrimination by creating a diverse and an equitable environment, we do not merely act to fulfil any statistical ambitions, as both staff recruitment and artistic programmes are based on relevant skills, artistic excellence and merit; however the information and data below has been put together to ensure transparency of our work and demonstrate in practice, our commitment to diversity. Please also note, some names of artists and staff have been removed to ensure privacy.
