Greatmore Studios, in Capetown, South Africa, was an artist led initiative, established in November 1998 in response to a need for studio space and art-making facilities in the region.
The studios bring together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds into one working environment, encouraging new ideas and stimulating creativity, productivity and professionalism. Local artists interact and collaborate with international visiting artists in an atmosphere of cooperation and cultural exchange. This environment provides artists with opportunities to follow new directions and to push themselves beyond the boundaries of their usual practice.
Greatmore hosts exhibitions, workshop open days and public events which provide a platform to introduce the latest works of new and established artists to local and international audiences. Greatmore also benefits from a digital and resource centre- with facilities including unlimited access to the internet. This enables artists to keep up to date with events, other residencies, opportunities and competitions. Also available are training courses in selected applications and assistance in building websites.
Visit the Greatmore Studios website for details and photos from past exhibitions, information on residencies and how to apply, a wonderful archive from Greatmore's Outreach programme and full contact details- you can also sign up for their newsletter and e-bulletins.
