During her residency at 32 Degrees East, artist Immaculate focused her work around curiosity in children. Formally producing colourful murals, wire sculpture and charcoal drawings to illustrate her concept, Immaculate has taken a more sensationalist approach by creating an installation of a playground made from potentially dangerous materials including sharp metal, broken glass, bottle tops and used braids. By doing so the artist seeks to bring awareness to the constrictions of the environment in which many Ugandan children live and play today.
32? East is a centre for contemporary Ugandan art which has recognised remarkable untapped and un-fostered potential in the Ugandan arts scene.
