Brighton-based artists Sophie Dickson and Max Gimson were selected for a two month residency at Organhaus.
Dickson produces abstract paintings and drawings, incorporating materials such as boot polish, metal paint and crushed bricks, playfully experimenting with representation and observation.
Gimson's paintings and drawings depict both the silence and chaos present within everyday life. Gimson describes his work serving as 'reminders of human interaction with things through this, forms that are both of paint and of the body experience the ‘things’ within the work'.
During their residency in Organhaus, both artists observed and respond to the vast city of Chongqing, its rapid development and the relationship between the city and its inhabitants. They also lead talks and exchanges with local artists, culminating in an open studio event.
Triangle Network partner Organhaus Art Space is an independent art organisation based in Chonqing, China, set up by artists and curators for young or experimental multi-media artists.
