To mark the launch of the publication: ‘curating Johannesburg: rest.less, under siege/in transition’, Fadzai Veronica Muchemwa hosted a panel conversation with Liz Kobusinge, Molemo Moiloa, Sandile Radebe and Helena Uambembe exploring how to deal with trauma as individuals and as communities. In a world that seems to have transformed into a plane of absolute impermanence crossed by nomadic subjects committed to shifting and morphing identities, the hybridity and creolization of postcolonial identities point to a constant state of anxiety and psychic wounding. How then do we use art to navigate this difficult space?
This event marked the end of a 3-month curatorial residency for Muchemwa (Zimbabwe), and a 3-month artist residency for Kobusinge (Uganda) at the Bag Factory in Johannesburg, as part of Art Connection Africa, a collaboration between KfW Stiftung and Triangle Network to foster visual art exchanges, capacity building and informal learning activities within sub-Saharan Africa.
